Default How can I open excel template form in a shared file using vista?

I have access to a shared file. I need to open an excel spreadsheet which is
password protected. My laptop has Vista, however I get asked to open the file
in the application it was saved in, remove the password, save it and open it
in works.
I am very cinfused why Vista cannot open the file.

Vista is a Windows operating system that does not include Excel.

Did you install Excel or Office with Excel on Vista?

What is the extension of the file you are trying to open?

Sounds like you have Works installed or are trying to open a Works file.
