Default file encruption

I recently had to copy excel and word files, that were encrupted, to a new
drive and reformat and reload all software...Windows XP Professional, Office
2003 etc.
I can open all applications/file types except for a folder of Word & Excel
that was encrupted. These files give me access demied. If I look at
"properties, advanced, details I see one entry which includes part of a
certificate plus my name etc. Any idea's on were to go from here

Do you mean encrypted or corrupted?

Ha! I stumbled on that too.

BBQ: You may want to post this question on an XP forum as the problem is
really about Windows encryption, not Excel/Word. I would be interested
to know what you discover though.

When you encrypt a folder in Windows XP, access permissions are tied to
your user account. Since you copied the folder elsewhere (carrying
permissions with it), then reinstalled XP, I believe the permission are
now effectively tied to another user -- i.e., you, but in the previous
installation -- who no longer exists.
