Default how do I make a template accessible

I have created a template in excel, and posted it in the folder containing
other templates. When I open excel, hit filenew and choose templates on my
computer, my template does not appear as an option. Can someone help?

You may find you get better responses if you include the version of excel you're
using (and the version of windows, too) and the folder location of that
template.

I use xl2003 under winXP home and I saved a testtemplate.xlt into:
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

When I hit File|New... (with the ellipsis), I get a New Workbook sidebar.

I can click "On my computer" under the Templates section. Then I use the
General tab of the Templates dialog to see my newly created testtemplate.
