Default Why does 2007 EXCEL shut down when saving file as .XLS

I'm using Excel 2007. All of a sudden it has started closing down when I try
to save a file as .XLS due to "a problem causing the program to stop
working". What can I do to correct this? I can't seem to submit the
question to Tech Support. (It keeps telling me I need to submit a new
request.)
