Default Opening files

Since I've upgraded to Office 2007, I'm unable to double click on text files
to open them with Excel. Excel is set as the default program (although it
wasn't on the list of possibilites to select as the default). I looked at
the Excel setup and made sure that "Ignore other applications that use
Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) was unchecked, but don't know what else could be
wrong.

I think it must be in the Excel setup somewhere, as I was always able to do
this with Office 2003.

Hello,

if you right click on a text file and choose "Open With". Have you ticked
the tick box for "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

Yes, although as I said, Excel wasn't listed in the programs you could select
from, I found it in my programs and chose it as the program to open text
files with. I checked the box that says "Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file". I've also check the properties of a text file on my
desktop and it says Excel is the default program used to open it. I also
went to the control panel under "Default Programs" and Excel is set as the
default program to open .text and .txt files there. But when you
double-click on the file, it doesn't open, nor does Excel.
