Default CTRL+' stopped working

I've somehow managed to stop the CTRL+' from working in Excel 2003 - I think
by pressing a combination of keys in error!
How can I get it working again?

1) Are you hold CTRL down as you tab the ' key?
2) Go to an empty cell and tap the ` key; what do you see in the cell?
3) Use Tools | Options and open the View tab; in the Windows Option area
check the box called "Formulas". Do you see formulas now?
best wishes
