Default Cell color and conditional formatting

I have a cell in column C that has been filled with the color yellow manually
and then I have a condition that is written that adds a pattern. Some of the
conditions put the pattern on top of the manual color and let that show
through (blue stripes over yellow background), and some conditions only show
the pattern with no background color. I need the manual background color to
show through even though there is a pattern on top.

How can I fix this?

Here is my guess. When you open the conditional formatting the pattern will
either have White or No Color selected in the top half of the dialog.
Assuming that to be the case Click the Clear button in the bottom right and
re-apply your pattern without selecting anything in the top half of the
dialog.
