Default file extensions in excel

I have a coworker that refuses to save excel in the new format (xlsx) I
explained that this format will give her more features than available with
the 2003 (xls) format. Unfortunately I did not know the added features that
saving in xlsx would give. Is there a document out there that gives the
added features in xlsx format?
