Default Workbook linkage returns #REF!

Hi,
I've got a spread sheet 'MASTER' linked to another worksheet 'COPY' (which
is an
exact mirror of the 'MASTER') with cells linked identically by both row &
column.

For some odd reason, when I open just the COPY (with the MASTER closed)
after 10 rows I've get the value ' #REF! #REF! #REF! ' across all the cells.

BUT when I open the MASTER sheet simultaneously the cells get updated with
the right value in the respective cells.

I'm unable to understand this.
SOMETIMES IT WORKS/UPDATES PRECISELY ** BUT NOT ALL TIMES**

Can someone pls help.

Cheers, Matt

Some functions in Excel can link to other workbooks, but only when
they are open, giving errors when the "sending" workbook is closed. I
suspect that you are using these functions in your formulae.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Pete.

I should have probably mentioned this.
The MASTER file has about 10 worksheets & THE COPY mirrors all 10 sheets
9 of them update perfectly but just the ONE tab that doesn't.

Any ideas?

What functions are you using that are returing the REF errors.

Hi Jim
All I've got in each of the cell is = Path of the drive/folder/file/cell ref#

Here it is .
='E:\Sales_ Distribution\BRANCH_SALES_&_ACTIVITY_MIS\Daily Activity
Tracking\6. Jun 2009\[Canary_Wharf (PB).xls]DATA_ENTRY'!B19

The above formula is placed in cell B19 of the COPY sheet.

This is what the page look like (on the COPY sheet) when the
update is meant to happen.
Rows 1-16 works fine, the issue starts from Row-17 (sometime this can vary
as well)

Row-15 01-Jun-09 15:37:57 Rob Hamilton Client Meetings
Row-16 01-Jun-09 15:38:21 Rob Hamilton Client Meetings
Row-17 #REF! #REF! #REF! #REF!
Row-18 #REF! #REF! #REF! #REF!
Row-19 #REF! #REF! #REF! #REF!

Trust this helps.

Matt.
