Default Subtotals

When I use the subtotal function on the Data tab, the "grand total" appears
several hundred lines between the last sub-total & the grand total.

Is there a method that will eliminate the additional blank lines between the
last sub-total & the grand total

Is there data in the lines or are they really blank? I'm thinking there may
be spaces that you can't see.

Is it the times or the Zeitgiest?
