Default Copying conditional format across columns

Hi all-

Possibly a simple question ...... but it is baffling me!!!

When you copy a formula in excel from one cell to another the formula
stay relative to the cell unless you lock the reference by using $.

However, the same does not seem to apply to conditional formatting
rules. They seem to stay locked to the cells that you select even if
you remove the $. i.e. if you set the formats up in colum A, drag&copy
the column to B - the format rules still apply to cells in Column A
rather than staying relative to teh same cells in column B.

Can anyone help? is there a way to copy conditional formats so they
stay relative as you drag and copy?

Thanks in advance

Paul

Hi Paul

You should not insert absolute references, so iso syaing =$B$612, for
example, you should say =B612. Also rather use your painter tool to drag
conditional formatting. That's the little paint brush icon.
