open xls file error: data may have been lost
I click OK on the error message "File error: data may have been lost" and
then save it as a xlsx and it opens OK. Please advise if there is a way to allow it to be save as a xls without the error message or indicate why the error is occurring. |

Do you also have problems with this file if you open it in Excel 2003 ?

I do not have Office 2003 only Office 2007. However in our environment we
have both Office 2003 and 2007. Try to test the file first on a 2003 version.

This may be unrelated but I have noticed that the file size increases when I
save the file. I am doing much copying and pasting from one spresdsheet to another which may cause the problem. The size goes from 12 MB to 98 MB. Is this normal? Will be testing the file in 2003 version tomorrow. Another point, when I break the file up into separate workbooks for each worksheet, the problem appears to go away.
