Default security - protecting a worksheet

I have protected worksheets that I need users to update. (I unlocked the
cells that I want them to use and kept the rest locked; then protected it.)
When certain sheets are activated, I want them to be sorted but excel will
not allow it once I protect the sheets. I unchecked the "sort" button in the
security box but it still will not allow the sort. (I also tried allowing
insert rows and columns and it's as if I didn't bother.) Am I doing this
wrong somehow or misinterpreting what these buttons allow? HELP!!
Thanks!
Paula

Sort refers to the column/row sort.

From what I've been reading, if any cell in the sheet is "locked", you cannot
sort at all. I don't understand this but it seems to be the case. Thanks!
