I administer a PC for our church. We recently ran short of space because our
30GB disk suddenly thought it was only 3GB. I replaced the disk with a 250GB disk, but have been unable to open Excel since. I have tried repairing, deleting, but in every case I get an error that the package is not an appropriate patch package. I also managed to get an error that said it was unable to open a file in the TEMP directory. I've tried running the MS Office Update to see if new patches would fix the problem, but the UPDATE scan process will not complete. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

Did you copy Excel from the previous disk, or did you do a new install?

I copied from the previous disk, but now I cannot uninstall, repair, or
reinstall. No matter what I do it tells me the installation/patch is not a proper intall package; even if I don't have the original CD in the drive. Kassie,
The actual error message: "This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can acess it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package." As I mentioned I receive this if I try to uninstal, repair, or reinstall no matter if I have the original installation CD in the drive or not. Thanks for your help! I suggest that you delete the directory that you copied. That is, if you do
not have any data files in the same directory! If you do, move the data files to another directory, and then delete the directory. Do not use Add/remove programs, simple delete it. Then, do a proper Install from your CD. -- HTH Kassie Replace xxx with hotmail "Carl" wrote: Kassie, The actual error message: "This patch package could not be opened. I copied the whole disk by using ASR. I have been able to resolve the
problem using the following information from a Microsoft Tech Support engineer: In addition, based on the error message you have mentioned, I would like to share a knowledge base article with you. I sincerely hope it will be of help. Title: You receive the "This patch package could not be opened" error message in an Office program Link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295823 Thanks for your help Kassie.
