Default Excel file locked and cannot delete file

I am using Excel 2003 and I was working on an Excel workbook yesterday (which
is over a network). Before finishing for the day, I closed the file, closed
Excel and shutdown the PC.

This morning, I opened Excel and within Excel tried opening the same file
and now it is telling me that the 'File is on Use' and that I have it open -
but I don't have it open.

I have opened it within Excel in read-only mode and resaved it with a
different file name (which now works as the original), but now how do I
delete the original file I was working on yesterday? I have rebooted the PC
and ensured there are no Excel files open. I can't seem to delete it through
Excel or Explorer or any other way, Any ideas?

Hi,

Perhaps someone else has it open, didn't you get the option to 'notify'?

Default Excel file locked and cannot delete file

No one esle has it open and it is saying that I have it open and my name
appears in the dialogue box:

'Filename' is locked for editing by 'MyName' then have the options Read
Only, Notify, Cancel.

As mentioned, I opened it in Read Only and resaved it as a different name
(which works) but I cannot delete the original file!!???

Any more ideas?

That it says it is opened in your name means nothing, anyone can change that
name to be Bill Clinton, Boris Yelstin etc... it could be someone else that
has it open. Go to the file server and look "open files" in Computer
Management and you see who has the file in write mode.

To learn more of User Name works and can be changed look he

Has anyone else replied? I am having the exact same issue. It says
that I am logged in. Rebooting does not help. I need to get rid of the
old file and can't.

Thanks!

Default Excel file locked and cannot delete file

Did you read my post more below? I repost it here but first let me tell you:
That a file says it is locked by your name doesn't mean it is you, it can be
anyone. If the file is on a file server, log in on that file server, in
Computer Managment look Open Files.. there you will see the real user who
lock the file. If you really want to unlock the file download and use this
programhttp://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/ but I don't recommend that solution.
here goes:

That it says it is opened in your name means nothing, anyone can change that
name to be Bill Clinton, Boris Yelstin etc... it could be someone else that
has it open. Go to the file server and look "open files" in Computer
