I need to calculate hours. I have a formula set up for part of my equation
where I'm adding up the total hours that something took place for the month
(by entering each occurance and then summing), but I need to take the total
hours for the month which in one instance is 58 hrs and 7 minutes and
subtract the occurances from that to find out the difference. How can I
enter the 58:07 without it giving me a January 2, 1900 date and 10:07 as the
time?

This has the number showing up correctly on the spreadsheet, but when I have
the cell highlighted it's still showing up as 1/2/1900 10:07 and using this
when I try and do a calculation with it.

Its the same thing, XL will still be able to do your calculations.
2.42 = 58:07 = 1/2/1900 10:07 AM

It's the same number no matter how you calculate, all you're changing is how
it is displayed. The math works out the same no matter how you display it.

The math isn't coming out to what I need though. I'm trying to subtract 22
hrs and 41 minutes from 58:07 and it's giving me 11 hrs and 26 minutes. When
it should be 35 hrs and some minutes. I may need to convert everything into
minutes first and then figure out the hours.

My guess is that what you are subtracting isn't 22:41 but 46:41.
Remember to format all the relevant cells as [h]:mm, not as h:mm

right click on the cell/s
Format Cells
Select Time
In Type, choose 37:30:55
OK
