Default How does pivot table still work after deleting DSN?

How is excel storing connection information?

If it is using an external DSN, how is it I can send the xls to someone who
doesn't have the DSN and it works.

If it is not using a DSN, why is it that the wizard prompts you to choose or
create one?

In order to refresh the data you would need the DSN in order to get new info
from the Data Source. But The pivot table will have info in the pivot cache
which the user can manipulate.
