I think I read something about a symbol which appears as a checkmark in a
particular font, ie, Mangal. i can't find it now that I need it. I'm
attempting to find and replace a field with a checkmark. Any assistance would
be appreciated.

If you're using xl2002+, you could use Insert|Symbol (like in MSWord).

If you're using xl2k or below, you could use a nice addin from Chip Pearson:

And you didn't ask, but if you need to know what's in the cell, get another nice
addin from Chip:

Perhaps you might be referring to lowercase "b" in Marlett font ?
