Default I want to checkoff items as I'm proofing them

Is there a way to use a highlighter and checkoff items as I'm proofing them?
For instance, my spreadsheet contains the therms used for gas which I
obtained from our gas bills. I want to go back and "check off" the items
against the bills so I know I didn't miss any or input them incorrectly.
Afterwards, I want to return the spreadsheet to its original input colors. I
don't want to go through the tedium of using the fill tool which is what I
have been doing for each item.

hi
here is a technique i have used.
color the first cell on the checkoff you any color to your liking.
use the arror key to move down the list.
to check off, tap the F4 key. that is the "repeat action" key. it will color
the active cell the same color as the previous cell.
when you get to then end of the list, remove all the color.
