Default "this operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on

I'm having difficulty getting hyperlinks to work in Excel (office 2003 - SP3)
and the following error message pops up: "this operation has been canceled
due to restrictions in effect on this computer"

Anyone have any thoughts? (xpPro SP3)

It would be better if you can provide some details like what are you trying
to link.... is it a web link, linking another file on the drive or any
worksheet in the same excel file???

If you are trying to link another file from shared folder or your local
drive, it seems that you dont have acccess permissions to the folder where
the file is kept.

Try to link another file may be a file which is kept on your desktop. If you
can link another file...

Thanks for getting back to me - it's a web link - the computer accesses the
internet thru a modem - I can hyperllink thru IE, Mozilla etc. the only link
that seems not to work is in Excel (I haven't checked office and we don't use
Outlook)

Hope this helps!
