Default Error bars in scatter plots

Everytime I try to put custom error bars on scatter plots in Excel 2007 it
puts both horizontal and vertical error bars on each datapoint. I only want
vertical error bars, so I then have to delete the horizontal ones. Time
consuming and annoying, especially given that earlier versions of Excel
didn't do this. Is there a way to stop Excel 2007 adding horizontal error
bars to scatter plots?

Bernard called it a bug, but I think it was designed into the product (the
designers don't have as much experience with the product than the users
here).

There's a better way. I built a free little utility that helps with error
bars in Excel 2000-2007:
