Default File Collaboration

I want multiple users to be able to edit an excel (.xlsx) file at the same
time on an ad hoc network with no internet access. The network only consists
of 2 - 3 machines. I know Office Groove provides this sort of functionality
but from everything I've read it must use an internet connection. Is there
any way Groove will work over a strictly ad hoc network, and if not what are
my other options?

The network shouldn't matter. You have 3 ways of addressing a file

Http:\\neworkpath\abc\filename.xlsx
\\mynetworkname\mydir\filename.xlsx
h:\mydir\filename.xlsx

The same method should work for all 3 cases
