I feared that this was the case but is there any work around- like a program
you can buy that will allow this? I am kinda new at excel and from reading
some of these post I find that you guys are experts compared to me. thanks
for the response

Search google for file encryption.

Some Zip/Compression programs have an encription option. And you'll be able to
compress the plain text .CSV file, too.

http://www.7-zip.org/

is an example.

What do you want to "protect it for or from" ? You can make it read
only in the operating system Windows Explorer. You can password protect
it in Windows XP compressed folders. you can encrypt it in the NTFS
filing system. see Windows Help for more information regarding those
features/options.

I have tried all those ideas but it will not protect--- i just want other people not to be able to cut and paste and copy the info-- but I cannot seem to protect it what ever method I try. thanks for your help

Please understand that your "desired protection" is not available in
99.99% of the files that exist. There are some specialty files that can
prevent it but it won't be happening for a plain text file like CSV.
