Search google for file encryption.
Some Zip/Compression programs have an encription option. And you'll be able to compress the plain text .CSV file, too. http://www.7-zip.org/ is an example. joed wrote: I feared that this was the case but is there any work around- like a program you can buy that will allow this? What do you want to "protect it for or from" ? You can make it read
only in the operating system Windows Explorer. You can password protect it in Windows XP compressed folders. you can encrypt it in the NTFS filing system. see Windows Help for more information regarding those features/options. joed wrote: I have an excel file in CSV format but when i try to protect it- it states CSV may contains features that are not compatible with -----do you want to keep the workbook in this format---- I have to click yes because my gps wont read the file. but if i click yes it will not protect. Please understand that your "desired protection" is not available in
99.99% of the files that exist. There are some specialty files that can prevent it but it won't be happening for a plain text file like CSV. joed wrote: "Bob I" wrote: What do you want to "protect it for or from" ?
