Default Continous number box

Hello Experts,
I have created a Work Order that now my boss would like to have a self
generating number on. So that every time we do a new work order it will
provide us with a new number. I'm not certain... who am I kidding? I just do
not know how or even if this is possible to do. Please HELP!
Thanks,
