Default Why can't I switch to landscape mode?

I can't get my excel worksheet to switch to landscape mode even though I
check that box in the orientation section of page setup.

What do you mean the worksheet does not switch to Landscape? The impact is
visible when you Print or Print Preview...

Landscape applies ONLY to the orientation of the paper you will print on.
