Default Hyperlink Question | Need Advice

Greetings. I have some rft files hyperlinked to certain cells in Excel 2007
(I'm using MS Vista). When I click on the hyperlink, the file opens, of
course, but always in MS Word 2007. I want the file to open in WordPad (or a
similar fast-opening word processor).

Also, even though I go through the standard procedu right mouse click,
open program with ..., etc., to change the default to WordPad, this file from
within Excel always opens with MS Word 2007. How can I set it so the
hyperlinked files in Excel 2007 open in WordPad, not MS Word 2007? Also, I
don't want all files to open with WordPad, just certain ones.

Also, I am assuming that opening a WordPad file will be faster than opening
an MS Word 2007 file, all things being considered. Am I wrong about this? Can
any of the experts in this forum recommend similar bare-bones word processors
that open lightening fast in Excel 2007?

You can use the hyperlink to open WordPad:

=HYPERLINK("file:///C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Accessories\wordpad.exe")

and then use File Open from WordPad to open the .rtf

Thank's Gary''s Student, as always, but it would be nice if I could get Vista
to recognize WordPad as the default program whenever I want to open rft files
in Excel.

Even though I went into Control Panel and followed the directions, MS Word
still pops up when the hyperlink in Excel is clicked. Perhaps another Vista
bug. I'm sure Windows 7 will fix some of these inconveniences, but I won't
hold my breath.

Brute force approach might be to uninstall Word.
The patient approach would be to use Word and accept the slight delay in
opening the file.
