Default How do I change the automatic color default in Excel 2007?

I am new to MS Office 2007. When I open an excel worksheet, I do not see
the gridlines. I have checked the advanced settings and "show gridlines" is
checked. The automatic color is black, yet the gridlines do not show. If I
specifically select a color instead of automatic, the gridlines will appear.
Does anyone know how to reset the automatic color in Excel?
