Default add sheets to exsisting file

i am using excel 2003 and would like to add three sheets to exsisting file.
for some reason it will not take. i can open a new file and have the six
sheets that i want

Default add sheets to exsisting file

Once created the number of sheets is set. To get more sheets in an existing
file you will need to add them manually. There is no XL setting to
automatically add sheets to an existing file. New workbooks will be created
with the number of sheets you specify in options.
