Default Conditional Formatting?

I have a situation where I need to be able to modify the font of individual
characters depending on another cell. Specifically, if a cell value is "a",
I need another cell to say "fP", where f is the greek letter phi. If the
first cell vaule is "b", I need to display "P/W" where W is the greek letter
omega. The rest of the cell is regular fonts (arial). How can I do this? I
looked into conditional formatting and it does not appear to be the correct
tool.

Thanks.

Default Conditional Formatting?

=IF(OR(AND(LEFT(A1)<"a",LEFT(A1)<"b"),A1=""),"", LOOKUP(LEFT(A1),{"a","fP";"b","P/W"}))

If this doesn't work for you, post back, otherwise, click yes below and
happy hunting!

not sure if this is going to help but here is what i would do:
=IF(A10="a","Φp",IF(A10="b","P/ω",A10))

Thanks. Nikki's response helped me get what I wanted - I am using the
character map to get the greek letters. With John's solution, I had the same
problem I had before in that the f would be an f not Φ.

LOL, I'm sorry, I posted back in the same format that you had presented your
question. I just assumed that you were using the special codes to insert the
two characters into the formula, and I was just representing as you did.
