Default Number format €“ accounting symbols

There a lots of entries for the $ sign in the accounting number format. They
all seem to display in the same way. What is the implication of picking e.g $
(English) Canada and $ (English) United States, or $ (English) New Zealand
and $ (Maori) New Zealand.
They must be there for a purpose, but what is it???

Default Number format – accounting symbols

No purpose that I have ever been able to ascertain.

Might have to do with language-specific versions of Excel but..........??
