Default accounting format problems

When I enter the amount $50.47 into a cell that is formatted as "accounting"
it makes that amount display has "14 Marena St47" why is it doing this?? I
cannot figure it out. Even if I format this cell as text or currency it still
ONLY displays these weird letters and numbers. All other cells in this column
are formatted for accounting, and I have no problem entering amounts, such
as $58.93. This is a very simple spreadsheet so I don't understand what is
happening. This has actual happened to me before as well, I get the same "14
marena ...." when I enter certain amounts in my spreadsheets.. Please HELP!
