Default Excel 2003 cell format causes hang

I have a user on our network who is using WinXP and Office 2003 and
when he tries to click on any formatting button such as 'bold' or
'colour text' the machine stops responding within Excel.
If I login as another user, it works fine.
I have tried re-installing Office.
Can anyone suggest anything ?
Otherwise I will have to make a new profile for him.

Try changing from a network printer to a local printer.
