Hi. I'm trying to copy and paste formulas without having the exact formula
change. For example, in one cell I have =c1*d1, I want to copy and paste to
another cell but still keep the formula, =c1*d1. Whenever I copy and paste
the formula it moves to =e1*f1, for example....please help!

Hi Stephen,

What you would need to do it copy the formula in "Edit" mode, so you
basically paste the text of the formula into the new cell - this will carry
the same values.

Alternatively, you could use absolute referencing - when typing in the
formula, hit F4 after each cell reference to convert it to absolute cell
referencing. This will give you =$e$1*$c$1 for example.

You will be able to paste this formula anywhere in the sheet, without the
references changing.

ok Stephen, if you want an absolute cell reference, you have to modify your
formula slightly. Just prefix our cell reference with the "$" sign. so your
formula becomes

=$c$1*$d$1

Their are a couple of ways to do it. The first is to put a $ in front of the
cell reference to make it a "absolute" refereence rather than a "relative"
reference

Example.

$C$1 means that the row and column of refernced cell will not be changed
when you copy to another cell
$C1 means that the column "C" of the referenced cell will not change when
you copy to another cell
C$1 mean that the row "1" of the refernced cell will not change when you
copy it to another cell.

The other way is to select the actial text in the cell and copy clip it into
another cell.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the feedback for your other answers which changed to using
absolute rather than relative formulas. No one has to sweat
at whether you got what you needed or not..

Another possibility and closer to what you asked but necessarily closer
to what you might want. Is to use a context menu (right click menu)
with additional items named "Copy Formula". and "Paste Formula"
Chip Pearson posted the method but there were some tune-ups to it
in that thread.

You can pick that up and a few other similar things related to invoking
some of my macros through the context menu..
