Default shortcut for creating border in several highlighted cells

Is there a shortcut or easy way to create a border for several cells at one
time? When I highlight a group of cells and choose a border only the outside
of the cells shows a border. If this can't be done, how can I easily have
each cell in my rows and columns all to have a line border? I guess I'm new
at this.

Easiest would be to click on the "borders" icon on the formatting toolbar
and select the appropriate style.
