When I calculate interest payment for a loan, the interest amount is always
in red. How can I change it so it looks normal font (in black)?
thanks

You could set it so that the cell format is NOT red.

If I set it to general, I do not get Dollar amount sign. And the answer has
several decimal points.

Why does the interest payment shows in negative?

Default Interest payment

The amount is in negative because is a payment, not an income.

Whenever the money goes out = payment - decrease in cash (negative numbers)
Whenever the money goes in = income - increase in cash (positive numbers)

So at the end of any period you can add payments and income and balance the
cash.

If it's too much of an issue go to format cells select currency and then
select the black text between parenthesis -people use this format not to see
red numbers or sings on screen- you'll still know i'ts a payment but will
not look ackward with the text around it.

Let me know if this fix the issue,
