Would depend upon font type and size.

Proportional or non-proportional font........Arial would take up less width than
Courier for example.

The number that appears in the Standard column width box is the average number
of digits 0-9 of the standard font.

Also, I am not sure what Start and End signifies...........number of characters
or?
