Default sequence of input

I have trouble with changing the sequence of my input into a cell. I am using
a scanner to put in numbers into the cells and it goes from one row to the
other, however I need it to go from one column to the other and stop at a
certain point e.g it needs to go from a2 to b2 c2 d2 a3 b3 d3 a4 and so on .
How do I configure that? Please help.
