Default Pasting with multiple sheets selected loses undo history- why?

When I select multiple sheets in an Excel Workbook and then do a
straightforward copy and paste the 'undo' history is lost i.e. the button on
the toolbar is greyed out. I can get round this by using 'paste special' but
its very irritating. Any help greatly appreciated

Ruth
