Default Need Direction on performance

Most of you experts MUST know what PC build will make Excel happy.

Used 2002, 2003 & now 2007-I could be wrong but the Lemon Law may apply to
Excel 2007 :) and therefore might be able to offer some specs to a good PC
build that will handle 40mb file w/formulas and links to other workbooks
without a grinding hault slowdown that never recovers.

I now use 7 total workbooks after breaking up the main file to make a
smaller; scratching my head about that).

I use Win XP Pro. I have two PC's - single processor and also a new dual
processor and both experience the same bogg downs. Although the dual
processor is fast, it still boggs out and the wait is long at times on
recalc. it will eventually load though.

I want to get/build a new PC that will handle/clac a really large files (40
to 100 mb) with a large amount of formula. I don't play games or surf the net
so I just need formula satisfaction with speed.

Any direction you could point me to would be greatly apprciated.

Luke
PS, Pardon the rant. What is the point of having "1 million rows and 16
thousand columns per worksheet" when it won't handle 50col X 8500rows? There
is hesitation even when you load it with text and no formula/numbers. I just
don't get that.
thanks for listening and your help
