Default All Files Close

If I have two or more excel files open, and I close one all close why, and
how can I avoid this?

hi
not sure, wild guess but you may be clicking the wrong X.
if you are clicking on the big red X to close a file, you are closing xl not
just 1 file. under the big red X is a smaller black X. try clicking it to
close the active file.

Thank You for your reply. I am wondering why it happens with excel, with
word even if I click the big X it will not happen?

hi
word opens a new instant of word for each document. excel opens all files in
the same instant of excel so that in word when you click the big red X, on
that instant of word closed. when you click the big red X in excel, excel and
ALL OPEN files closes.
i don't know why microsoft set it up that way. seems like it should be
universal but it's not. so we have to work with the way microsoft set it up.
