Default Excel File Won't Open

I'm having trouble opening an Excel file.
First, I have researched this board.
I have made sure ToolsOptionsGeneral uncheck "Ignore other Applications"
is unchecked.
I have run unregserver and regserver as described in many posts.
I have closed everything and restarted the computer.

I suspect the problem is in the file - how it is saved.
When I open it, I get a completely gray screen, but when I select Print
Preview, the information is visible. I could print it out easily.

Sometimes, when I receive files from this sender, the window is "shrunk" so
only the blue bar and a bit of the worksheet is showing. I have to expand
the file both wide and tall. Other files he sends are usually fine.

I'm wondering if it is shrunk so small that I can't expand it. (Honey, I
shrunk the worksheet?)

If I type in the cell numbers (ex: A1, B1, etc.) I can see the values. Just
can't see the worksheet.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
