Default Missing information in autofilter drop down Excel 97

I have a list if data som 1300 rows by 26 columns and when applying the
autofilter I sometimes don't seem to have some of the data in the drop down
list, however if I filter for the data in another column the data appears
with the numbers I was ariginally trying to filter for in their proper
column. Firstly is this an issue with 97? Or could it be something to do with
my data? I am trying to write some macros at this point and this issue is
screwing up the responses from the macro.

I believe the limit on items in an autofilter dropdown is 1000.
