I've received a spreadsheet containing various email addresses but the
hyperlink for each address is not active (regular text, not marked as
hyperlink). When I double click on the individual email address then move to
the next cell, the email address hyperlink becomes active (address displays
blue with underline). Is there a way to activate the hyperlink for multiple
cells?

If A1 contains:
as a "cold"cell, then in the next column:

=HYPERLINK("mailto:" & A1) for a nice "clickable" link
