Labeling Secondary x Axis
I am working on a custom line/column chart. The data on the primary y axis
presents change in a 96-97, 97-98, 98-99 and so on format. The secondard y axis has columns representing profits for 1997, 1998, 1999, etc. I am only able to chart the x category axis with the 96-97, 97-98 ...sequence of years separated by small verticle lines. The secondary axis columns sit on top of the range of years (96-97) rather than the year (97) that the secondary column represents. I tried spacing with a blank space but that did not work. I would like to have the secondary columns, for example, 1998 profits sit on top of the 98 in 97-98 rather than in the middle of 97-98. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Al |

Labeling Secondary x Axis
I'm not sure what you're describing. Is the problem that the secondary
series obscures the primary series? If so, try this: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/...OnTwoAxes.html Your subject indicated something about the axis label, but there's nothing about that in the description. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com _______ "al" wrote in message ... Labeling Secondary x Axis
Sorry for the discription. The example you referred me to helps me to further
explain what I am trying to do. The third chart in Column Chart on Two Axes shows Jan on the x axis. It is preceded and followed by a vertical mark. In my example, 1998-1999 is in the position of Jan because it is referencing the change in some data that occurred between 1998-1999. The secondary column in the chart is referencing the result of the change which occurred in 1999. 1998-1999 is separated from 1999-2000 by one of those vertical marks which could represent the year 1999. I would like to know if it is possible to get the secondard columns in the chart to sit on top of the vertical mark on the category axis rather than on top of the 1998-1999. The category axis, by the way, is set to 0. Hope this explains it better? You have been very helpful in the past - I appreciate you willingness to participate in the discussion group. The category axis, by the way, is set to 0. Now I got it. Here's how you can do it. Primary data: a 1 b 2 c 3 d 4 Make a column chart. Secondary Data: 0 0 1 1.5 2 2.5 3 3.5 4 0 The 0 and 4 categories will line up with the left and right edges of the chart. Category 1 will fit between a&b etc. Copy the range, select chart, Edit menu Paste Special, add as new series. Double click new series, move to secondary axis. Chart menu Chart Options: uncheck secondary Y axis and check secondary X axis. Double click secondary X axis (top of chart), Scale tab, uncheck Axis Crosses Between Categories, Patterns tab, select None wherever possible to hide this axis. You have been very helpful in the past - I appreciate you willingness to participate in the discussion group. Hey, it's fun, makes me stretch my brain. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com _______ |
