Hi ~
I have an Excel 2000 data file that is corrupt and I can't open it with the usual steps (e.g. excel viewer, web file save, linking, etc.) Now, when I try demo versions of some advertised file recovery utilities, they seem to work, but since it's only a demo download, I can't get more than a few lines of the spreadsheet. Retail costs vary for the utilities, around $200-300+. I find it incredible that MICROSOFT does not have a similar FREE utility that can be used to recover data files, but that several 3rd party companies are more than ready to cash in on these situations. Does anyone have a shareware / free utility that can be used to fix an Excel file 100%? I have not seen anything offered from Microsoft, but if anyone knows of such a utility, please let me know. I'm unable to afford the retail price for this kind of assistance, but sure could use some help. Thanks - |

I have been having a similar issue with my excel software. I seem to have a
corrupted file due to a graphic placement. Although I was able to remove the graphic I can't seem to repair the file properly. Anytime I open the software it automoatically crahes. Sometimes it will automatically restart my entire computer. I tried the openoffice software, but I can't install it on my system as I am running Mac OS X version 10.4. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Thank You! "Harald Staff" wrote: Hi OpenOffice is known to do this. http://www.openoffice.org ....now don't complain about file size... HTH. How big is your file? If not some monster then feel free to shoot it over to me
and I'll give it a go for you. Both Excel XP and Excel 2003 have 'open and repair' options that do as you wish, though Open Office still opens more than Excels repair utility does in my experience. Need to take the nospam out of my addy. Sometimes though you can only recover actual data and not formulas or code etc. -- Regards Ken....................... Ok, looks like the previous post did the trick. It took a while to download
the file, but it got everything working again. Thanks - "Ken Wright" wrote: How big is your file? If not some monster then feel free to shoot it over to me and I'll give it a go for you. Hi,
Thanks for responding so quickly. The filesize is about right 1,097KB and there is no other file with similar name in the directory. Do you have any other suggestions ?
