Excel - Corrupt File / Urgent

Retail costs vary for the utilities, around $200-300+. I find it incredible that MICROSOFT does not have a similar FREE utility that can be used to recover data files, but that several 3rd party companies are more than ready to cash in on these situations. Does anyone have a shareware / free utility that can be used to fix an Excel file100%? I have not seen anything offered from Microsoft, but if anyone knows of such a utility, please let me know.
