Default Error message opening Excel97 workbook

When opening an Excel97 workbook from the "My Documents" folder, I receive a
message that another document with same name is already open and to rename or
close the other document. If I first start Excel and then open the same
workbook from the "Folder" icon and browse to the "My Documents" list, I can
open the workbook without receiving the error message. How can I correct
this problem?

I am running Windows XP Home, SP2, Office Professional 97

Thanks so much for the quick response. I ran the "regserv"as directed and it fixed the problem. Note , I also tried the second suggestion of selecting the "Ignor other applications" on the options/general tab and when I did this selecting a workbook in "my documents" resulted in a message that the item could not be found. Deselected and everything works fine.
