I just started using Excel 2007 and have run into a problem not previously
encountered. When I try to type in a date, excel only recognizes it at text. I've tried entering the date as 18 Nov 07 18-Nov-07 18-Nov-2007 11/18/2007 18/11/2007 November 18th, 2007 and every other combination in between. The most I can get Excel to do is tell me that I have 2-digit date error, but it still records the input as text. I've tried changing the format of the cell prior to data entry, but that doesn't work either. Please no replies telling me to cut, paste, use the datevalue function, or any other gyrations. I just want to straight type in the date and have Excel recognize it as a date. |

If your settings are English (US) in Regional and Language in Control Panel,
the first 4 entries are dates and the last 2 are text. "J. Mooney" <J. wrote in message ... I just started using Excel 2007 and have run into a problem not previously encountered. Checked that, and setting is 'English (United States)', and I'm typing the
date format exactly as it is in the short date format. No dice. Any chance that the cell is preformatted as Text.
Select the cell Format|cell|number tab and choose anything but Text (but the date format that you would like would be best). J.
