Default Excel Silently Crashing when Network file is open

About 3 weeks ago I posted a request for help on the Excel Appication Errors
discussion board, about Excel silently crashing when files are opened across
the LAN, but I got no replies there. I am hoping I might get some help here.

Basically, excel can run just fine for an indefinite period of time, then
when the user opens another office file including word documents and e-mails
etc, Excel may crash silently. It may also crash silently when the user is
doing nothing at all.

Thanks for any help.

Interruptions in the continunity of Netowrk connections can cause Excel to
have problems in saving of files opened from the network. Even if the "hit"
is just instantaneous, Excel "loses it's way back home", and locks up.
Particularly if maybe the open file has autosave set active.

This is an obvious source of problems, yes...However this user on this
workstation (and his workstation and profile have been
replaced/re-imaged/re-profiled) is the only one who reports this issue as a
continuing problem. Happening once in a while, is expected as you have
pointed out, however this issue can occur once or several times a day for
this user. When the user and his machine were replaced/re-imaged/re-profiled,
the symptoms went away for several weeks, however they returned. Therefore I
suspect it must be something to do with configuration, and I was hoping for
some direction there I guess. Short of any advice, I am going to have to
recommend that the user be re-profiled with the user taking notes to any
configuration changes made to office suite of applications and if the
configuration notes aren't helpful in resolving the problem if it recurrs,
then follow up with a re-image, repeating the note taking.

I am hoping to avoid that situation, and perhaps if someone is aware of this
as a problem, that they might already have the solution or have a KB article
that refers to the problem.

Thanks,
Scot

Could any substitutions be made?....such as physically redirecting the LAN
drop to another user and giving this user a new one..........or swapping out
the entire computer hardware, to see how/if the problem moves around.
